With the return and rebranding of Toku USA, henceforth known as OtakUSA,there are bound to be a few changes for the show. The purpose of this thread is to lay out these changes, and answer any of your lingering questions. So without further a due, here is "everything" you need to know about the show. Get excited, OtakUSA is coming your way.
1. OtakUSA will air October 4th. (This date is pretty much set in stone, but IS subject to change.)
2. Weekly episodes of OtakUSA will air either Saturday nights, or Sunday mornings depending on my workload.
3. The format for the show will be as follows:
-Introduction
-Tokusatsu, anime, and other Otaku news you want to hear.
-REVIEWS****
-Weekly Otaku Recommendation****
-OtalkUnplugged****
-Animail Time****
-Otaku Dream Buy of the Week
-Salutations
4. I will not be reviewing any weekly Tokusatsu, instead, I will be reviewing current ongoing anime. The anime scheduled to be reviewed are subject to change and are as follows:
-Garo: Honoo no Kokuin
-Kiseijuu
**UPDATE**-Gundam: G no Reconguista** has been replaced by Psychopass 2. Stay posted for further changes.
-Log Horizon Season 2
My hopes are that, by reviewing some of the particular quarter's anime, the show will stay fresh and more accessible to a wider range of listeners. I believe that reviewing the weekly Tokusatsu had a few major issues. The first being that they tend to run for 50+ episodes. That's an entire year of the same shows. For new listener's to the podcast, who have viewed little or none of these series, it is easy to become disinterested if they are tuning in half way through a particular series. The next issue to be noted, is that Toku is REALLY hit or miss. I don't want to get cornered into reviewing something I can't stand (e.g. Kyouryuger) for a full year. The final issue with reviewing the Toku is piracy. Because there is no legal way to view these programs currently in the state, I personally feel that it would be better for the Otaku community to access their Japanese media through legal avenues such as Hulu or Crunchyroll. Unless of course we get Akibarangers Season 3, I will definitely review that if it shows up. I'll probably buy merchandise to clear my conscious.
The advantages to reviewing quarterly anime: every 12 to 13 episodes we'll have something new and fresh to look at. This will allow the show to be more accessible to new listeners. There is such an enormous amount of anime released each quarter, that it's much easier to trim the fat and review nothing but the best. I would be watching these shows even if I wasn't doing the podcast,so you won't have to put up with all the bitching and moaning you hear in other podcasts because I will ONLY be reviewing things that I like. (As opposed to Tokusatsu which I ONLY watched so I could review it for the show.)
*Long Running Shonen series: I will not be reviewing these on a weekly basis for some of the same reasons I will not be reviewing Tokusatsu on a weekly bases.
5. The weekly Otaku recommendation will be ANYTHING Otaku culture. Do you have a favorite series, OVA, movie, etc. that you would recommend to anyone and everyone, let me know and I may just feature it.
6. OtakUnplugged will be the segment of the show where we earn our explicit rating on iTunes. It can be anything. Rants (probably lots of these) or just some good down to earth discussions that you want to hear.
7. Animail Time; unoriginal title if you've seen Blues Clues, but what I hope will become my favorite new edition to the show. I want your opinions, your thoughts, your recommendations, your unwavering love and devotion. Whatever you've got to offer, I want to share it on the show. Don't be shy, I wont bite you unless you want me to, I'll have reservations about it, but you can bet your ass I'll do it.
8. The Otakudreambuy of the week will only see 1 change. ONE CHANGE TO RULE THEM ALL!!. I want YOU to send me YOUR Otaku dream buys.
