In this corner, standing in at 5 foot 11 inches and 214 pounds. He has won every match of his MMA career in the first round. In 2003 he was named master of the year and inducted into the World Karate Union hall of fame. Fan boys around the world know him as Tommy Wheeler from mighty morphing power rangers. He is, Jason David Frank!
Now I know what you’re thinking, “not another MMA guy.” The white ranger isn’t just an MMA guy. The red ranger has too many accomplishments to name in a 90 second phone call, the green ranger’s MMA career is just the icing on the cake that solidifies his bad-ass-etude. Frank got his start on Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers as Tommy Wheeler aka/ the green/red/white rangers. Bandai tried to take him off power rangers and put him on VR troopers but changed their mind because the fans demanded that he stayed.
But what does he have to do with wrestling? As it turns out, he and C.M. Punk have had verbal confrontations at numerous Comiccons in recent months, and have even discussed having a professional MMA fight. As awesome as that sounds, I think that this could parlay into making him a regular commodity on WWE programming. He’s a disciplined martial artist, has an unwavering work ethic, and is best known for his role as a stage combat actor. It wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination to say he could definitely give us a good showing in the ring and on the mic. He’s ripe for the picking any time creative is spinning their wheels on what to do with punk.
Wouldn’t you rather see Frank and Punk put on a 15-20 minute 5 star classic in the WWE than see Frank put Punk away in the first minute of the first round of an MMA fight? I know I would.
